Merian Iselin Foundation
In 1898 Adèle Merian-Iselin remembered the Basel “Society for the Good and Public Benefit” (GGG) in her will with a plot of land and a sum of money to build a hospital.
The bequeather died shortly afterwards. In 1918 the Merian Iselin Foundation opened a clinic at the current site on Föhrenstrasse. The “Homeopathic Clinic”, with at least 15 beds, which Adèle Merian-Iselin wished for, has become a leading private health centre in the Basel region.
Our main focus today is still on the specialty of orthopaedics. However, services are also provided at the highest level in other disciplines, such as urology or plastic surgery.
As a non-profit institution, the Foundation provides treatment in the field of orthopaedic prosthetics to patients from the city of Basel who only have mandatory health insurance. This commitment saves the canton more than 2 million francs a year and should be taken as a sign of our strong involvement in healthcare provision.
Our patients are always the focus of all our endeavours. Just as Adèle Merian-Iselin wanted it to be.
