Merian Iselin – the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Surgery – is the leading health centre specialising in orthopaedics and surgery in north-west Switzerland. As a modern hospital based on a system of affiliated GPs, we offer the possibility of a free choice of doctor in all insurance classes and cover part of the regional basic healthcare provision. Thanks to ongoing technological and infrastructure development, the Merian Iselin ranks as one of the most advanced clinics in Switzerland. Particularly in orthopaedics, a key specialty, intensive efforts are made to guarantee patients that surgical procedures are performed to the very highest standards. Major orthopaedic procedures such as hip, knee and shoulder replacements, are an important specialism. Surgical interventions are also offered in the fields of general surgery, ENT,plastic surgery, urology and vascular surgery. The departments of imaging diagnostics, laboratory and therapies also provide the utmost professionalism. Once patients have undergone surgery by the doctor of their choice (around 100 accredited affiliated doctors) in one of the six ultra-modern operating theatres and they have received postoperative intermediate care (IMC) in one of the 15 beds, there are 120 beds / 1 suite available for the in-patient stays of our patients covered by private, semi-private or general insurance (more than 6500 patients in 2008). A total of around 450 staff in the front line and behind the scenes attend to the well-being of our guests. The comfortably furnished patients’ rooms benefit from modern design and functionality and all have internet access via a wireless LAN. The “8” restaurant with its panoramic views and sun terrace is an inviting place to spend time. The service departments such as Private Patient Service and Dietary Advice as well as the seasonal meals are tailored to the individual patient. We have just completely modernised our Radiology Department structurally and in terms of modalities. We now have available a second ultra-modern MRI (Siemens Verio 3T) and an additional, advanced digital X-ray unit. Our MTT – known as PhysioPlus – has also been thoroughly modernised and is again available for use.
